Labor of Love

Labor of Love
Woodworking has always been a passion of mine, so when my father came to me several years ago and asked me to build his casket, I was both thrilled, but also saddened with his request. I put it off for about 2 years, but then realized I needed to get it done. Death is something no one can predict when it will come.

As I began the process, I thought why not make a matching set, one for Dad and one for Mom. So I built 2. My mother wasn’t too keen on the idea at first thinking that in some strange way having a casket made and ready would cause the need for it to come all that much sooner. (Now twelve years later they have yet to be put to use.) She has since become one of my greatest supporters.

No other project has brought me so much satisfaction and comfort. It soon became a ‘Labor of Love’ and brought with it a ‘Peace of mind’ for me, my parents and our families.

Every casket I have made since then has been built with that same ‘Labor of Love’ as the first ones.
